A Healthier Lifestyle Through a Proper Diet

by Morten Olesen

Maintaining a healthy diet is quite a tricky venture. It is very easy to tread on the unhealthy path and keep going downhill with each meal and snack. On the other hand, eating healthy requires discipline and focus. If your normal meals include a croissant in the morning, burgers/ pizza at lunch and maybe a bag of chips from the vending machine when the cravings strike then you're in big trouble.
Processed foods are surprisingly tasty and even delicious but the end result is very harmful to you.
A healthy living through meals, you need to know and time when you are eating and what you're eating. Eating your feelings away or blank eating while you're watching the television will definitely lead you down the wrong path. Always be aware of when you're eating. That way, you keep track of what you're eating. If you always find yourself eating when sad, anxious, happy or excited, then try to break the cycle. Sort out your emotional overwhelm then get to eat later when you really get hungry.
Break the three meals a day cycle as it always leads to crazy hunger pangs and unhealthy eating. Six small meals in small portions ensure that you are always full. The secret to this is to snack on healthy fruits and vegetables; a salad in this case will do just fine. It needs skill and great discipline to stick to a certain diet. Keep your portions small and healthy. Sneaking in some processed foods and candy bars will ruin the whole thing.
Some people relate starvation and crash diets to weight loss which is never the case. Your body senses when it is deprived of its normal portion of food. It assumes that you're starved hence adjusts to keep you going. In this process, it slows down the metabolism which keeps you from losing weight as the food gets digested slowly. However, when you eat the six small meals in a day your metabolism is sped up hence you lose more weight.
Writing down your menu or noting down every single food you've eaten at the end of the day will help you keep track of your progress. This way, when you encounter a setback you have the records to show you exactly where you went wrong. Time your meals to be a specific time apart in order for your body to have a constant process.
The most important meal you could have in a day is breakfast. Never skip this important meal. It helps to get your metabolism up and working and gives you the energy you need to keep the day going. It is always advisable not to eat so close to bed time. This is because your body gets dormant and doesn't digest the food well. The calories are stored instead of getting burnt hence weight gain.
Breaking your usual chain of three square meals a day might be hurdle for most people, you included. However it is advisable to do your best to get in to the six frequent meals a day for a noticeable change in your waist line, high energy levels and a healthier you!
